These are the Discussion Questions for Technology in the Inquiry-Based Science Classroom, Spring '99. Please feel free to browse... And remember, Peer Review and Input are fundamental component of inquiry. You are being called upon to provide feedback to your peers.

WEEK FIVE (Mar 15-19)

Assignment: Respond to at least one discussion question and a posted response made by one or more workshop participants.

Discussion Questions
1. What are the criteria you use to determine what makes a good lesson for your students? After listing the criteria you use, evaluate one of the skeleton inquiries in the Inquire Ohio Field Guide. What are its strengths? How could it be improved?

2. Read over the key skeleton concepts listed on the first page of the "Theme 2: Skeletons" booklet in your Field Guide. Then review the five inquiries in the booklet. Which concepts are most deeply covered? Are there ways the concepts could have been further explored? Are there any skeleton concepts that were not covered that should have been?

3. Review the "Assessing Student Learning" essay in the "Getting Started Section of the Field Guide (pp. 12-13). Five different methods of assessment are outlined. Which—if any—of these methods have you tried in the classroom? Which do you think would be useful for you? Do some work better for inquiry-based lessons? Why?

4. The technology focus for the Skeletons theme is "Building Your Community of Inquiry." In the special technology challenge you did last week, you accessed listservs and newsgroups that might help you to improve the inquiry-based science learning in your classroom. There are other resources as well: email to knowledgeable colleagues and experts, the Inquire Ohio Web Site and Inquire Ohio Resource Finder (Thanks Maureen Davis!) Service, and the Dragonfly Web Site (http://www.muohio.edu/dragonfly/). Have you found these resources to be effective? How have you utilized them to advance the learning in your classroom?

Where and What do I post to the World Wide Web?
