These are the Discussion Questions for Technology in the Inquiry-Based Science Classroom, Spring '99. Please feel free to browse... And remember, Peer Review and Input are fundamental component of inquiry. You are being called upon to provide feedback to your peers.
Assignment: Respond to at least one discussion question and a posted response
made by one or more workshop participants.
Discussion Questions
1. Many of the inquiries are interdisciplinary in the Field Guide and the Dragonfly Teachers Companion. This means that they draw critically from two or more disciplines
or fields. Consider one or two of the Finding the Way inquiries
in the Field Guide. Which disciplines did they utilize? Were they
delving into the disciplines in depth? Or is their use fairly
superficial? What are the advantages and difficulties of interdisciplinary
education?
2. Which of the Finding the Way inquiries is, in your opinion,
the most difficult to do? Were there any other difficult inquiries
on other themes that you encountered? What made them difficult?
How could you improve them so they were more feasible for you?
Be specific.
3. Many of the inquiries in the Field Guide and Dragonfly Teachers Companion involve some form of cooperative learning. Review the essay,
"Tips for Guiding Small Groups Through Inquiry" in the Making
It Work section of the Field Guide (page 9). Which of the cooperative experiences suggested in the
Field Guide and Dragonfly Teachers Companion were most successful for you? Which gave you most trouble? Do
you have any good tips to offer on cooperative learning?
4. Many of the inquiries in the Field Guide and Dragonfly Teachers Companion include "extensions." These are short, additional ideas to further
students learning on the theme and inquiry at hand. Which of
these extensions did you try or would you like to try? Can you
come up with an extension idea of your own for one of the Finding
the Way inquiries?
