Discussion Questions
1. The two final Inquire Ohio/Dragonfly themes are Living in Space
and Houses. Review all of the material related to these themes.
How do these themes compare in terms of their educational value?
Did one theme work better with your students than the other? Why?
Do you have any ideas for good themes to use in your classes?
What makes a good educational theme?
2. Review the essay, "How to Reach All Students" in the Making
It Work section of the Field Guide (page 7). Also review the "Reaching
All Students" articles in all five of the Dragonfly Teachers Companions you have. Then consider the inquiries you have tried. Which ones
worked best for different types of students? Do you have other
ideas for how to reach different types of learners?
3. Now that you have watched and used all segments of the video,
which segments worked most effectively for you? Did you incorporate
the videos in the suggested ways, or did you use them in alternative
ways? What were the strengths and shortcomings of the video segments?
How would you improve the segments?
4. Read the essay, "Getting Published: Writing for Dragonfly,"
in the Making It Work section of the Field Guide (pp 17-18). How would you encourage your students to create an
appropriate article or feature? What steps would you have them
take? What pitfalls would you anticipate? How could you troubleshoot
them?
